Al-Arqam Islamic School, a school that just got honored by being called an IB World School needed some help in telling the brand new sixth graders what exactly do you do to become and IB student. The answer was in the IB program...the IB learner profile! The IB Learner Profile indicates what characteristics you need to become an IB Bridge student. Sr. Safia decided to give her students a project in helping the young sixth-graders by asking them--us to make a video with pictures and the charecteristics to help them understand the IB Learner Profile.
I specifically loved the nasheed in the back and how it perfectly blended in with the pictures. I also loved how I stopped on the picture for a little bit right after the words left. I used the software Windows Movie Maker to make my video. I encountered many difficulties during the making of my video, but I really hated one of them for which I had to bug Sr. Safia almost for a week. It was where I had problems saving the video on to my USB due to different versions of Windows. I don't think I would really change anything next time, but it is always good to try new things and learn more every day.
I tried my best to use the IB design cycle, and I did use most of it. I planned what nasheed and pictures I wanted to use, which comes in the step of 'Plan' on the IB design cycle. I also spent almost all of my time creating my product by following my plan ('Create'). I succeeded in using the proper techniques and materials for my product. Next, I am evaluating how much I used the design cycle which fills in the step of 'Evaluation'. I think I should probably get an A- at least because of all my hard work and dedication towards my product. Again, I tried my very best to follow the IB design cycle, with many tribulations along the way.
I think this project fits under the 2 Areas of Interactions which are "Approaches to Learning" and "Community and Service". I believe they fit under these two categories because I got to reflect to my work and communicate and learn more about the software that I used. This project tested my skills towards technology and helped me learn and play around with the software so that I could figure out new things. For the Community and Service, I believe that I am helping my school community (6th Graders) learn and become the best of IB Bridge Students they can become.
The two IB Learner Characteristics, that I think I developed during the whole process of my video was 'Risk-Taker' and 'Reflective'. I think I took many risks in attempting to save my project since the video got deleted almost three times. Rather than that, I took many other risks in trying to make my project possibly the best it could be. I also think I developed the characteristic of being Reflective because I knew what I was doing and the purpose of it. By doing it, not only did I help other students, but I also helped myself understand the IB characteristics and reflect upon them by trying to develop them, not only at school, but also in my personal life.
